Chapel Of Disease "Summoning Black Gods"

Ah.. that fresh putrid scent of old school death metal.

"Summoning Black Gods" is the debut full-length of Germany's Chapel Of Disease who are willing to reanimate this old corpse of OSDM by any means. And with this album they did it rather well, by creating an energetic and extremely captivating album. "Summoning Black Gods" has that old school stench everywhere, from the sound of it, to the whole construction of the tracks, the riffs, the guitar solos, the voice, the artwork, everything. Although many people out there don't give a shit about this kind of sound anymore, i personally love it. It feels almost as entering a time capsule and travel back to my high school years. Although Chapel Of Disease are a contemporary death-metal band (they were formed back in 2008) they are these modern times revivalists, who bet on bringing back that old school sound many metal heads, like me, still love.

The formula used here, to be honest, isn't new, but Chapel Of Disease give their own sick twist to it by introducing great catchy death-metal riffs and one very visceral voice. Tracks like the opening "Summoning Black Gods", "Evocation of the Father" and "The Nameless City" are perfect hymns for this new wave of the genre that could've been easily made 20 years ago.  "Summoning Black Gods" is a vibrant and effective album that i'm sure it will please 30 and older old school death metal fans like me. Fans of early Asphyx, Death, Morgoth or even Sepultura take notice. Buy the vinyl here.

Desecresy "The Doom Skeptron"

The killer second album of this Finnish horde that marks their return with an excellent production of this band that plays a crushingly heavy type of death metal with doom hints and a dark, cryptic & eerie atmosphere inspired by bands like Abhorrence, Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Rippikoulu, Incantation, Rottrevore... and in general getting inspiration from 90's Death Metal bringing that cryptic stench back into the XXI century. Listening to this really makes me travel back in time as "The Doom Skeptron" keeps on proving respect to Desecresy's roots. Heavy as hell. Buy here.

Feturing three tracks, COD deliver some putrid old school death metal just the way i like it: evil, raw and rotten to the core. We really need more bands playing like this nowadays. If you dig it, be more than kind and grab yourself a copy here.

Mr Death "Descending Through Ashes"

Here are some tunes for your Friday 13th...

Having been obscured by the more popular Swedish melodic Death Metal and its Gothenburg sound for more than fifteen years, it seems that the old school Swedish metal with its Stockholm sound is on its way back into the limelight, and among the foremost exponents of the Second wave of Old School Swedish Death Metal is the aptly named band Mr Death. Featuring ex-members of legendary bands like Treblinka, Expulsion and Tiamat, Mr Death is obviously a collection of talented and very experienced musicians who were there when Sweden first crashed the gates of the death metal scene in the early 90s, and on "Descending Through Ashes", the follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut "Detached from Life", Mr Death gives us yet another convincing reason to like old school Swedish death metal. In addition to the old school death metal core sound, Mr Death also incorporate more rock-inspired elements, much like Entombed and Gorefest did back when they they started going into death 'n' roll territory, and tracks like "Come Winter" and "Descending Through Ashes" have some quite sludgy and groovy riffs in them, while "Another State of Decay" sounds like Motörhead on steroids.

The guitar sound is extremely dirty and the bass distorted beyond reason, and the drums have an organic and almost live sound to them. The vocals have the form of crusty death grunts, and the production is suitably lo-fi. This is old school death metal at its best: primitive, heavy, groovy, crusty, thrashy, and headbanging-friendly. If you like old Swedish acts like Grave, Dismember, Nihlist/Entombed, Dismember, Vomitory, and Desultory, Mr Death's "Descending Through Ashes" should be right up your alley. Fans of old school American death metal acts like Obituary, Necrophagia and Goreaphobia, as well as death 'n' roll acts like Gorefest, Six Feet Under and Debauchery might like this album, too. If interested you can buy it here.

War Master

Fuck yes! Finally the full length of this Texas Death Metal war tank! After two killer Demos, "Pyramid Of The Necropolis" is the awaited debut of this Texas band. With this debut, War Master, continue their campaign of dystopian dismembering death metal demolition. Terminating sonic necropocalyptic carnage forged into the grave of ancient masters and sharpened down the left hand path. "Pyramid Of The Necropolis" delivers 8 ritualistic skull crushing offerings to the maddening altar of the chaos realms. Being a great Bolt Thrower and Benediction fan, i really could not this one pass by. Buy it here.

Putrified

Old school kick ass name? Check!
Low budget artwork? Check!
Putrid old school death metal sound production? Check!

Here is Putrified, after the classic Demo and EP phase, this is the brand new full length entitled "Spawn Of The Dead" (is it a homage to Dawn of the Dead??). Formed by a Swedish one man band (after all, this isn't only a Black Metal thing) this guy locked himself in a cold, dark cellar, instead of the typical room covered with Burzum and Immortal posters on the walls, and must have been watching 24/7 zombie movies since he started writing this stuff. Basically it stenches old school death metal everywhere, even the production seems like this was released in 1996. It's nice, it's cool.. i can already see the green and purple lights as skeleton hands drag me down to their graves. Bang your head to the sound of Putrified you fuckers!! Buy here

Decrepitaph

Elektrokutioner and Sinworm know their shit. Decrepitaph have been around for almost six years, have two previous full lengths as well as a TON of splits and EP's. I would assume that a two man band would be less prolific, but these guys must have some great chemistry. "Profane Doctrines Unburied" is their third full length, and right off the bat it gets credit for staying away from both of the strong trends that have developed in the new wave of old school death metal movement. Every second of this album is strictly old school, from the strictly non-blasting drumming to the ambiguously horrifying subject matter. If you're tired of endless Swedeath neophytes and Incantion plagiarists, but want to hear great new death metal, "Profane Doctrines Unburied" is for you. Hell, doesn't that ghoul of the cover reminds you something? Now that's old school...

Funereality

This is the debut demo from this Swedish one-man band. Funereality is on a dark crusade to plays old school death metal heavily inspired by the great Autopsy. Four tracks (with one cover) of raw, lo-fi primitive death metal. Reeking of decay and charred remains. Mid-paced to slow with sick vocals, sloppy drums and sluggish, heavy and harsh death metal riffs. Autopsy-worship at its best! Festering, shiteating, graverobbing autopsy death metal.

Krypts

A sério.

Undead Creep

"The Ever-Burning Torch" é o novo álbum dos italianos Undead Creep a tocarem old school death metal swedish style lançado pela Dark Descent Records. Como bónus este lançamento traz agregado a excelente demo que foi lançada em 2009. Um álbum certamente a não perder para os fãs do género.
